As for the grossly mis-sized CD-RW drives, I'm guessing what happened is that Dell sent you a drive for the "regular" GX620 (e.g. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=313-3360&cs=19&c=us&l=en ), not one that fits the "ultra small form factor" GX620 (e.g. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=313-3362&cs=19&c=us&l=en ).
(The smaller drive you received looks like a laptop drive, for which I can't think of a reasonable excuse.)
Note to Dell: why insist on calling the large and small Optiplexes by the same model numbers? Would it really cost that much to rename the smaller one the GX621 or something? It boggles the mind...
